Takeaways
- Before you start texting, you need to activate your existing phone number to be textable in Alive5.
- Optionally, you can choose a random phone number to use for SMS texting.
- Activating SMS can take a few minutes up to a few days, also known as the porting process.
- A phone line has two parts to it – the voice side and the messaging side. Alive5 only routes the messaging side (SMS/MMS) of your phone number, and does not interfere with the voice side. so you can have two different providers for the same phone number - one for voice and one for text messaging.
- Currently, Alive5 can only enable non-mobile cell phones – such as VoIP (Comcast Business, Ring Central, Vonage, Zoom, but not Google Voice) and office / landlines. So you won't be able to text enable your iPhone or Android phone, only your desk and soft phones.
Porting Process
- Enter your number into Alive5, receive an automated call with a PIN, and enter it to confirm ownership of the phone number.
- A Letter of Authorization (LOA) will need to be signed digitally.
- Finally, the porting process starts, which may take a few minutes or a few days. You may have to contact your previous provider to release your numbers.
