This is a step-by-step guide on how to export contacts from your Microsoft Outlook email client into Alive5.
- Go to your Microsoft Outlook email account. Click on the ‘People’ icon on the left side:
then click on ‘Your contacts’:
- Select all the contacts you want to export by checking each contact, or the main checkbox at the top “Your contacts” to select all of them:
- At the right side, click on ‘Manage contacts’, then ‘Export contacts’. This will download a CSV file to your computer.
- Open the CSV file (inside Excel or any CSV editor):
- We’re going to modify the column header values: ‘First Name’, ‘Last Name’, and ‘E-mail Address’ to match Alive5’s format:
- First Name → first_name
- Last Name → last_name
- E-mail Address → email
When done, it should look like this:
- Next, we need to modify one of the phone columns:
Since the Outlook export provides multiple phone columns, you’ll need to decide which phone column should be imported into Alive5 as the SMS number for that contact. Let’s say ‘Mobile Phone’ is the column you’d like to use. Rename: Mobile Phone → phone
- When done, make sure you save your CSV file. You may need to export your file to a CSV:
- In Alive5, go to the Contacts app in the dashboard:
- Click on ‘+ New Contact’ at the top:
- A pop up will appear. Click on ‘Import Contacts from .CSV’ navigation bar:
- Click ‘Upload from Computer’ and select your CSV file and upload.
NOTE: only contacts with phone numbers present will be imported into Alive5. If there is no phone number, that contact will be skipped.
- Once uploaded, the new Contacts will appear in your Alive5 Contacts. If someone texts in and the first or last name exists for that Contact phone number, you will be able to identify them by their name instead of the phone number automatically.
